Tech giants of the US including Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Reddit, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube have come together to combat Coronavirus related hoaxes and false information floating on the internet. On March 16, 2020, all the seven companies issued a joint statement consisting of the efforts related to fighting Coronavirus hoaxes.
The joint statement said that the mentioned companies are trying to help millions of people by allowing them to stay connected and fight the hoaxes and misinformation related to the Coronavirus outbreak.
The companies are trying to overcome the hoaxes on their platforms and share critical updates with users by coordinating with the government healthcare agencies around the globe. The statement ended with a request for other companies to join the initiative to keep people safe.

Officials from the Silicon Valley met Trump administration to discuss a strategy for fighting the misinformation and hoaxes. As reported by The Washington Post, officials from IBM, Facebook, Twitter, Cisco, and Microsoft had a word with the administration for pooling resources to not only help in fighting fake information about Coronavirus on internet but also for helping users track the virus.
Since it was a private meeting, we’re not sure about the points discussed there. However, it is assumed that the upcoming changes will affect the existing moderation policies of the companies.
Consipiracy theories and fake news related to Coronavirus started spreading from December as soon as the virus started spreading around the globe. The big tech giants started their fight against the misinformation by exposing frauds and fake Coronavirus cures. However, a lot of work is yet to be done to curb conspiracy theories, hoaxes, and misinformation related to Coronavirus.
