The Internet user base is growing at an unprecedented rate in India.
But out of an estimated 600 million smartphones users in India, there are still millions who have no or limited access to the Internet.
Tackling the issue, Google has announced Vodafone Idea phone line service at the Google For India event. The service will enable users to access Google Assistant features, without the Internet connection.
Vodafone and Idea carrier network users in India can dial the toll-free number 000 800 9191 000 to activate the Google Assistant free call service.
Upon calling on the aforementioned number, the Assistant would ask you to speak up your query. Manuel Bronstein, VP product management of Google Assistant showcased a few examples, such as asking sports scores, weather conditions, and traffic conditions.
It goes without saying that the free 24/7 Google call service won’t be able to answer complex questions. But on the contrary, it will help users provide necessary information about the current trends. The service will be available across India in English and Hindi.
Other significant announcements at Google For India 2019
Apart from the Vodafone Idea phone line service, the Interpreter mode announced at CES 2019 is finally coming to India. Available for all Android and Android Go users, the feature will offer real-time translations of English to Hindi and vice versa.
Google has also announced a few exciting additions to the Google Pay in India. One such addition is a new Spot platform that will allow Indian businesses to build customized experiences using Google Pay.
Google Pay will now feature a job section where Indians can apply for entry-level jobs. The tech giant has already partnered with few most prominent Indian startups such as Swiggy, HealthKart, Dunzo that will post jobs directly on the platform.
Oh! And a new Google research center in the city of Bangalore.
